Overview
More
A raucous celebration of Bavarian culture, Munich's Oktoberfest is one of the world's oldest, biggest and longest parties. Dating back to 1810, the event these days kicks off when the mayor taps the first keg at noon on the third Saturday of September. Some 6 million revellers spend the ensuing 16 days clinking and drinking 1-litre beer steins, eating sausages and doughy pretzels and swooshing through the air aboard carnival rides. Technically a folk festival rather than a beer festival, Oktoberfest features plenty of merrymakers, in traditional lederhosen and dirndl dresses, belting out old Bavarian songs in giant tents and beer gardens. Regardless of attire though, anyone is welcome to link arms and join the fun.

This was a very interesting experience. I definitely stayed in one tent for each day, the risk of not getting a table can get pretty high. The chicken is stunning, so grab yourself a beer and half a chicken and dig in. It's pretty life...More

Before we left for Europe, one of our friends asked "why Oktoberfest?" We are now both in our 60s and he reckoned it was a place where youngsters went to have a drunken party. He was sooooo wrong, yes there are many young people having...More

If you were to blend in a disney experience, alcohol, wonderful live music, dancing and great spirits - you would get Oktoberfest. Great experience sitting in a tent for 4 hours. Will always cherish the memory

It is a lot of fun and beer, so what can be better than that? ;-) Music bands playing and a lot of singing and dancing as well.

A great experience which was lots of fun. I would definitely recommend downloading the official oktoberfest app because this tells you which tents are full and which have room, etc. which could save a lot of time waiting around. Every tent is different with different...More

No need to reserve a table. There are usually greeters at the door that will escort you to a table with vacant spots. If not, then all you have to do is walk around until you find one which won't be difficult for 3 people.

Oktoberfest is indeed in September and usually the first few days of October. No, there is nothing happening on the grounds outside of that time. There is plenty of other beer to be drank in Munich and Germany year-round... More
