Loved this lake with its townside beach - perfect for a refreshing swim after walking around the lake (approx 2 hours). Very relaxing lying on one of the beaches or grass (or sitting in the cafe/restaurant) and feasting your eyes on the deep blue green...More

Hard to say what I enjoyed more - the Neuschwanstein Castle or swimming in the Alpsee. However the lake was not so overcrowded.

I did not swim but took the almost two hour walk around the lake. Stunning spot with clean clear water which I expect is very cold but refreshing.

Tourists do make a beeline for the castles. If you have time, walk towards the water where the Neuchwanstein shuttle bus drops you off. If you appreciate nature you won't be sorry.

The scenery is just magnificent. The alps surround this beautiful lake. You need to get at least your feet in the water. Probably just a good idea in the very hot summer.
