A very educational experience giving the background for the Bavarian kings and a lot of detail about Ludwig II as well. I would recommend doing this before the castles as it gives a different perspective

This is a compact and well curated insight into the fortunes of the Wittlesbach family. There are interesting details of their fortunes before and after the world wars.

Not recommending unless you have spare time while waiting for the Castle tour. That was our situation. You will likely find out a fair bit of history on guided tours anyway. Very small museum with not many items on display, literally just a couple of...More

If you're interested in the genealogy, history and the personal lives of Ludwig II forebears and 'afterbears' (is that a word?), this is the place for you. Altho' Ludwig is a player in this museum, he's not the star attraction. Other members of his family...More

The museum is situated in the midst of the cafes & restaurants that populate the area between Hohenschwangau & Neuschwanstein castles - when you purchase a "King" ticket to see both castles, admission to this museum is included. Well worth a visit - very interesting.

This is the worst museum I have ever stepped foot in. Do not waste your money on going upstairs. Just use the free bathrooms downstairs and leave.

Quick visit is enough to learn the history of the place. Great place to cool down in summer! decent price for the tickets. if bought with combined neuschwanstein ticket

The displays were great. They were in English and German. Lots of history was captured in this museum. Great view of lake Alpsee

We went there in Sept and we popped in for an hour before our tours - say 10-11am and then went back there after from, say, 4-5pm. Just need to allow time to walk to the furthest castle. You can get a horse and cart but... More
