Absolutely stunning views!!! Well worth the rather warm cable car ride up there. Incredibly tasty veggie dumplings in the restaurant too. And as we're British, we found the name of the mountain hysterical 🤣

Despite the name! 🤪 and alot of school boy laughing we had a really good few hours here.
It was much cheaper than going up to zugspitz. About a 15min cable car ride up. The top of the mountain still had a fair bit of snow so perfect for snowball fights. We were so fortunate to have a clear day and an epic view of zugspitz aswell as watching paragliders launching off the mountain. Wandered around for an hour or two then sat on the rooftop restaurant with a pint and lunch watching the world go by. Beautiful way to destress and take in the marvel of creation around you. Just check the forecast before you go as on a sunny day you will not he disappointed.

Great, easy to follow hiking routes, fantastic scenery, food and beer available at the summit. One of my favourite hikes to date ☺️

Ok so 90% of us men are childish so I’ve decided to add photos rather than any rude or crude comment.
This place is beautiful and just over an hours drive from where our hotel is in Fussen.
It’s well worth the drive and at just over £40 (after conversion at English bank) to go up and down on the cable car it’s great value.
The views and walks from the top are wonderful, lots of benches and seating to relax and take it all in.
A couple of nice places to eat and drink on the top, absolutely gorgeous and worth the time and money.
And if you’ve taken the kids and they’re bored and have been good, then take them to the Alpine Coaster 20 minutes away (Google map it) then view it on YouTube, it’s a brilliant way to end the day
Me and the wife are in our mid fifties and did it, even though she had her eyes shut all the way, it’s brilliant, what a day!!

This walk was recommended by our host in Garmisch but the time estimate was a bit off the mark. Our target was to walk to the base of the mountain and then hike up to have lunch at the Tannenhütte restaurant. Google maps mentioned the time to reach the restaurant as 55 minutes. It was nearly 2 hours at the end. The was up was breathtakingly beautiful through dense forest but required more physical fitness than I had bargained for. I am 63 yrs old and found it difficult to keep on going. Had to stop at several benches on the last stretch to catch my breath. My wife, younger by 7 years had no such problem but she has been doing her gym regularly! View os the ski slopes and the town in the valley were gorgeous and well worth the effort. The food was good but expensive at Tannenhütte.

Our son & his wife took us (60 year-olds) on this hike; we took the train to Garmisch, walked through town and found the trailhead easily enough. Then we proceeded to climb 5 miles and around 3,400 feet! It was a bluebird day and the views were spectacular. The trail was hard-packed snow and well marked. We stopped at the lovely cafe on the way back down and were delighted with the refreshments,

Not fancying the walk up, which is primarily through a dense forest, we took the cable car option and elected to do our hiking at the summit. There are several lovely trails to take once up, and, depending on your weather, some beautiful views.

Wank mountain is overlooked by many travelers in GE, dwarfed in reputation by the Zugspitz and Alpspitz allure. But it’s so much more personable. You can actually walk the top of the mountain and view Garmisch-Partenkirchen clearly from almost 2,000 meters up. If you’re they’re during the right conditions, you can stand right next to the paragliders, watch them unroll and prep for flight and when the wind picks up, watch them jog down the mountain and lift off. The updraft carries them even higher. We watched more than a dozen take flight and watched them soaring among themselves before drifting out of sight or going down to end flight. Excellent restaurant at the top. The cable lift to the top was 30 euro and took about 25 minutes. We hiked down, took about 4 hours, but I must warn, it’s steep and we were wiped out til the end. The continuous downhill can be hard on joints, especially for us oldheads, and it is STEEP. So be warned! You can take the cable back down instead, and most do. We hiked to Partenkirchen and just past St Anton’s church there is an historical “foot tub” with ice cold spring water that comes off the mountain and is channeled in a stone walled stream. On portions of the route, you can view the 1936 Winter Olympics ski jump.

For a view of the mountains and the town(s) this is the place to be, including an essential stop at the Mittelstation, which has more luxuriant greenery. Perfect for butterfly lovers (me :o)

Are there any hiking trails up there? Are they hard?
Is there a time limit on how long you can wank for on this mountain.

Hi Ciaran
yes, its only allowed between 9am and 5pm weekdays. Any wanking outside this period is frowned upon by the locals.
Hope that helps and enjoy Wank Mountain !!

Is it possible to hike up Wank in October? If so, how long does this take?
Treadshred
San Antonio, TX29 contributions
It's possible, but the snow can start in late October. Depending on fitness level- maybe 4-5 hours. You also have to be aware that in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen valley you are 700 meters in altitude and then going up the another 1000 meters so the air might affect you too. However, there is a halfway station for the cable car so you can get a ride up/down. If that sounds a bit daunting, you can ride the cable car up and hike around the summit area- that can take an hour or two in itself.

Hello. We will be visiting Garmisch-Partenkirchen this Summer, and are considering hiking up Wank. Do you know for certain if we can ride the Wankbahn down only?
Thanks.

Hiya. It was definitely possible to buy one-way tickets when I went. Hikers are encouraged - there is accommodation and cafe, etc.at the top. I would recommend buying your tickets at the bottom though, as not sure if you can at the top.
Have fun and enjoy the views!
