We don't do a lot of individual tours but we did to this one and were very pleased that we did, we learned much more than we could have done otherwise and the extensive history of this whole site is amazing
I think I could have handled Eagles Nest by myself, there are buses from the train station to the documentation center/gift shop at Obersalzburg, and then separate buses to the top. All very simple and straightforward
However, I personally wanted to get some behind the...More
We were not disappointed by this tour with panoramic tour groups! Merkel and Walter were awesome! Especially Merkel! Very informative and kind man! The sights of the Bavarian alps are so beautiful! Your bus drivers are to be commended! It was a wonderful day !...More
What a shame unfortunately we had a terrible day with fog & rain up the mountain. This of course is not the fault of the tour operator but just pure bad luck! Next day beautiful sunshine!! Still nice drive up the mountain then through the...More
Tom our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions. (If it helps, the check in is inside the tourist information centre, opposite the main reception desk.)
The tunnels at the Documentation Centre were closed for redevelopment, so we had the...More
We had beautiful, clear weather for our Eagle’s Nest tour. Despite getting a bit tripped up on the meeting point being across from the “TI” - it is literally a desk across the room from the TI desk inside the TI building (not across the...More
Our small group of 3 had a incredible day with Tom on Sept 21st. He is extremely knowledgeable, engaging and passionate about 3rd Reich history and Berchtesgaden,,,,he brings it to life. I left with a much deeper understanding of how Hitler played his persuasive powers...More
We had a private tour for our 6-strong family group, led by Tom, who is clearly obsessive about his subject matter, (and was unfazed by having two history graduates and students of WW2 in the party!)
We were also lucky enough to have absolutely glorious...More

We booked direct online with Eagles Nest Historical Tours who are based in Berchtesgaden. It was just over 50 euros each but we thought that was a price well worth paying for the brilliant guide alone! The restaurant at the railway station serves very good food and is a great place to finish your day.

I am not sure that walking up is a good idea or how much access you have. Keep in mind that you can only go up there about 6 or 8 months out of the year because of tricky roads in bad weather. You just need to park at the visitor center and take the bus. With that being said, it appears there are many great places in the area to hike. Also, go to Lake Konigslee nearby. It is a beautiful lake and well worth visiting.
