After crossing the bridge from the old town, we went up via the (signed) Slangenpath or snake path, which winds between high walls for the first part and alternates between cobbles and stone steps. wear preferably good walking shoes with some grip. It is quite...More

I do not think this place deserves to be ranked #3 in the top things to do in Heidelberg. It is definetly not worth the steep walk. Going up as well as going down was extremely difficult and tiring. The worst part is that, even...More

We enjoy a good walk and this didn't disappoint us, lovely walking through the town and then the forests, with amazing view back across the river towards the Castle. The paths were good and for us proved no issues in good trainers. There are plenty...More

This path is just one of many ways to get up the hill. It does have some good view points overlooking the town.

Many philosophers used this path to get inspiration. I’m sure they already lived uphill. It’s the best view from Heidelberg, the Neckar river, the old bridge and the castle, but it has quite an inclination in some areas. Make sure you’re wearing comfy shoes. I...More

This is a lovely place for a hike, walk or bike. So many paths and trails for exploring. If you take the stairs up, prepare for some effort.. its not easy but great exercise and worth it.

Breathtaking views of the Heidelberg bridge, and the surrounding city, and of course of the Heidelberg Castle! Wonderful walk up steep narrow stairs, quite a work out. A few spots on the way up to sit and rest. Once at the top, you could spend...More

The only thing I would recommend, if doing this in winter, is to make sure you have shoes with good soles and grip. We found the paved areas and stairs a little slippery, especially as it had been raining. It was still worth... More
