Saw great photos on the internet prior to our visit. Unfortunately only one section around the Munsterplatz had water running through it. I can definitely see this would be something to make your smile when visiting the town.

When you are in the Freiburger old town, be sure to check out the little canals. The legend goes that you'll merry a Freiburger woman in case you step into them. So based on that be more or less careful while walking the Freiburger city...More

Of course, having been to Freiburg before, I had seen the baechle at their mellifluous, gushing best. This, it's fair to say, was not one of those times, however. Whatever (or wherever) feeds the water into them had run out of juice and, as a...More

I have been to Freiburg and seen the Bachle before which was mostly dry. I came again yesterday and they were hosting the Bachleboat race. You first buy a wooden boat and they provide you with all the materials. Use your imagination to create your...More

The Baechle are good fun when they are full of water, but although all seemed to be functioning when we arrived on July 2, many of them have been dry during the last few days. At our hotel a desk clerk offered the possibility that...More

The Bächle are part of the life blood of Freiburg, crisscrossing through the town and much enjoyed by children in summer. I mention them now as I had a letter to The Daily Telegraph in the UK published last week, which criticised London for saying...More

I remember the bachle from when I was a child visiting Freiburg. I took my shoes off jumped in. My daughter and I recreated the picture from 1972 but my husband cut our feet off!

These are quite a sight! Not just children enjoy them. I found them very nice to stroll along. Lovely idea to have them in a city, they give you an idea that nature is around the corner.

We so much enjoyed watching the young children pull their little boats along in the Bachle. They seemed to be having such a good time, giggling and running along. Innocent childhood fun the way it used to be.

Everybody plays with it, walks with naked feet, throughout the downtown area - great idea - very clean indeed
