We were amazed as we walked around Vieux Lyon to find the doorways which led to such beautiful little courtyards, staircases and balconies... what a treat! Just push the door and see if it opens - what a novel way to take a short-cut through...More

Fascinating historical element to the city. The traboules are covered tunnels that can't easily be seen from the street and were to enable lengths of silk to be carried around with getting rained on. In WWII, they were used as secret hiding places.

The traboules of Old Lyon are amazing passageways throughout this section of the city that are probably known primarily to only those who live within....There are now markers on the facades of certain buildings that alert you to the huge doors which, when pushed open,...More

If you visit Lyon with out checking out the various Traboules then you will have missed something most interesting. These hidden passages are spread throughout the older areas of the city. Part of the intrigue is locating the entrances to each of them. This is...More

The traboules are very narrow passages between two streets, through the old buildings. Few are opened to tourists, tge above floors are inhabited, so please be quiet, do not disturb. It is a nice experience. A guide would explain a lot, including information about the...More

One of the directions of knowledge of the history of Lyon is, in my opinion, acquaintance with the trawls. Fortunately on the map of the city, which they gave us in our hotel, they are shown in their color, and some are numbered. In fact,...More

If you have the time I would still recommend having a look through these historic tunnels but I wouldn’t go out of my way. They are very interesting but once you’ve seen one you’ve pretty well seen them all. If you have a short time...More

These really take you by surprise as you would never know they exist until shown. You really need a guide as many are not marked. Apparently they enabled speedy access to the river La Soane in olden times. Great fun.

Situated off the rue de Boeuf if you look carefully you’ll find the entrance to the Traboules, the underground passageways. You’re asked to walk through in silence as people do live above them. Interesting and takes you back in time!
