    Great old town in Lyon
Wonderful visit. Great old town in Lyon with hidden passages, restaurants, bakeries and churches. Had been given some helpful information from a tour guide, Maud, who gives tours, Highlights of Old Lyon. I wasn't able to do the Trip Advisor tour with her unfortunately, but I went by the hints she sent and found them very helpful!

    Beautiful Old Town!
Travelling through Burgundy for a couple of weeks, we stopped here for 3 nights on a boat moored on the Rhone! Amazing experience. We wandered around the beautiful cobbled streets of Lyon, visited the cathedral at the top, had meals and drinks in the lovely cafes and restaurants around the city. It's a lovely place. Definitely worth visiting and a transportation hub if you are getting around by train or bus!

    Beautiful views
The view from this area is quite pretty. We walked notre dame as well as the Roman amphitheater nearby. Take the funicular up- We were there during 100 degree weather and the funicular ventilation was not great- very hot, not much air- but thank goodness it was a short ride up and bearable.

    Marvelous glimpse into old Europe
Lyon is such a city of treasures, from the ancient Roman city high on the hill overlooking the Saone River, to the Vieux city, to the modern parts. Whatever you do, explore more than Rue St. Jean, which is charming, but jam packed with tourists and tourist traps. There are all sorts of secret passageways, and side streets to explore. This is so special!

    Lyon surprise
Lyon is a quiet unrushed Paris. Tho lacking Paris museums it has similar architectural features, winding narrow streets, and quality dining. If you can add a day, visit nearby Annecy near the Swiss border. Vieux Lyon is full of surprises.

    Lovely and hot!
Lyon was gorgeous! I especially loved vieux Lyon as it really gave off a kind of medieval feeling. My family and I did a self guided tour on the app Questo called haunted Lyon or something like that. It was a great way to get our bearings and find all of the “petit restaurants”! It is a lovely city in general, a real treasure.

The real heart of Lyon: Old Lyon.
Since my childhood I love Lyon city, but my favourite place is the old town of Lyon, “le Vieux Lyon”. Lyon old town, known as Vieux Lyon, is situated across the Saone River from the “Presqu'ile” district. To walk with family or friends, it’s the perfect district. In this place, you can find anything et see full of interesting things: the traboules, the cathedral saint jean, the pink town, a view of the cathedral of fourvière… Firstly, the architecture of the district which is particular and unique: with its cobbled streets, typical shops and traditional traffic jams. The mythic character of Guignol, the puppet of Lyon, is born form these streets. Very delicious restaurants exist in this place. They are emblems of Lyon. As a history student, this quarter is perfect, it’s a historic district. Honestly never went there to the Festival of Lights, which is a traditional Lyon festival. Unless you like to be tight and walk on feet. But it’s really beautiful to see in this quarter. Without hesitation I come back for the rest of the year !

Lyon - a city not to miss!
Lyon is a very walkable city plus excellent public transport (Metro, Bus and Funiculaire). We were a large group, with teens, and everyone loved their long weekend in Lyon. What really made the trip was how friendly 'Les Lyonaises' are and the chilled out vibe of the city. We particluarly liked Vieux Lyon and La Croix-Rousse regions. Do not miss the fantastic food market Les Halles De Lyon - Paul Bocuse (unless you are a vegetarian, vegan or squeamish)

    Breathtaking views!
The heart of the city isn't to be missed. The traboules and renaissance style old streets are beautiful. It's the dream place to go for a walk, crossing the bridges and visiting the churches and museums. This UNESCO world heritage site is simply stunning.

Vieux Ville is an area of the narrow streets and old buildings, lots of shops and restaurants. Runs along the bank of the Saone river. This is a busy area and popular with tourists, so food prices tend to be a little higher.
A must visit area of Lyon.

Walking through the old Town is a fascinating place to wander. Old architecture, endless alleys ( you need to push street side doors to get through) and museums, shops, etc. Lively and very historic

Very atmospheric; lots of bars and restaurants; very good views.

It’s a bit tricky to access if you’re staying a bit out of the centre unless you use the metro.

We didn’t have long in Lyon so spent most of our time here & were glad we did. There’s plenty to see and do, even on a Monday (when a lot of things are closed).
Maybe it’s a little touristy, but there’s a lot of history here too.

We spent 5 days in Lyon last week, where we had a great time, loved the city, had a positive experience, but unfortunately we were robbed on the last day.
They stole my wallet from my jacket pocket and used the PIN code to use my bank card. We went back to the Vieux Lyon metro station where we assumed the theft had taken place. Since only half an hour elapsed between my card use and the subsequent cash withdrawal, we had a good idea of the location, as we waited at this station to take the Funiculaires up to the cathedral. We were very likely to see the gang operating there. A sentinel was standing at the entrance to the metro station leaning against the pillar. My wife said he couldn't be a criminal because he was totally charming, but after 5 minutes of observation she was suspicious too. One or two people were standing at the ticket machine. In Lyon you can buy metro tickets with a credit card. There is no paypass, you have to take out your physical card and you also have to enter the PIN for a 6 euro purchase. Thieves take advantage of this. Standing by the machine or talking, they read the PIN code, signal the sentinel who signals the pickpocket. The man we observed, after standing around for about 10 minutes (occasionally winking, we think, at the gangs), walked towards the nearest machine to withdraw money, glancing back once. Either he had already spotted us watching him, or he was just checking to see if he was being followed.
The police only took my personal data, they were not interested in the details of the crime at all. But if we had gone back to the Vieux Lyon metro station, where we were 80% likely to see the gang operating, the police could have caught them already.
Alternatively, Lyon's public transport company could have made the point that there is paypass payment, but if there isn't already, then they should not ask for a PIN code from a vending machine in a crowded place for a few Euros purchase.

Wander the old streets, visit the Cathedral and stop for a drink or a bight at one of the many cafes. A top thing to do in Lyon.

Pretty cobblestone streets, most restaurants there are overpriced for what they serve, it’s like they are taking advantage, feels very scammy. A bakery whose name I forget had a big line, thinking it must be good we got a open face sandwich, costs 6.50 euros, it was just a very thick slice of bread with very thin spread of cream cheese, thinner bit of smoked salmon and two slices of tomato, all you could taste was the bread. Good to go and see but eat elsewhere.
