It’s a treat to amble through this lively square on a nice spring day. There’s tons of eateries, though you’ll likely get a better meal elsewhere as you’re paying for atmosphere here.

Lots of interesting buildings and plenty of cafes, so it's great for people watching over a coffer or a mine. The restaurants leave a bit to be desired though, tourist junk food mainly. Not really a problem as the are many great alternatives a short...More

The first thing that caught my eye on this place was a beautiful and classic carousel, which ia atill working. The other thing was what used to be or is, I'm not sure, the mayer building. And the last thing that I saw was the...More

We passed through a gate in Avignon's ramparts around 1 p.m. on a weekday and noted virtually no activity anywhere as we trudged toward the town's main square. Once we reached this long narrow expanse just southwest of the Palais des Papes, it became obvious...More

Wide open square with a number of open air cafes. If you are traveling with a group that needs a meeting spot, this is it. Easy to find and very accessible. Behind the carousel and down the stairs are free, clean toilets.

The Place is a central tourist spot, largely pedestrianised, and handy for the Papal Palace and browsing around the old town. There is a good range of restaurants offering value meals from breakfast to evening. As well as regular French cafe fare is cous cous...More

Busy square full of restaurants which were suprisingly reasonable (Moule and frites at one was 8.50 euro) main thoroughfare to Palais du Papes with Town hall and Opera house on the way worth visiting to sit and watch the world go by!

We passed by and through the Place de l'Horloge several times during our stay in Avignon. It is charming especially the old carousel still in use to the delight of many little children. We easily avoided the overpriced eateries in the area -- much better...More
