    Beautiful Religious Art
Lovely, quiet museum, less physically taxing than the Pope's Palace. Beautiful collection of gothic and early Renaissance art, naturally heavy on Christian themes. If you are seriously interested in this period, it is a great collection for comparing iconography (how various symbols and themes are portrayed among all the paintings). The cafe was closed.

    For Museum Lovers
The museum is really not related to the Papal Palace although it is riich in Renaissance art. Definitely worth a visit for the museum lover as there are several unique pieces. Anytime a collection has a Giotti or two, it's the real deal!

I went to view Botticelli's paintings in Room 10
I only had time to see Botticelli's 4 paintings in Room 10. Rushed for time, I asked one of the gallery assistants to show me where Room 10 was and she took me there directly which was so appreciated! This room would not have been too easily found by myself and I would have been distracted by all of the other beautiful paintings in the art gallery. Botticelli's paintings were small, not wall sized. One could get very close up to view these paintings. I could see his outline of the figures which were then filled in, the facial detail, brush strokes on the garments. There were 2 of his Madonna and Child paintings on the wall. This art gallery is free so definitely worthwhile for just a short visit for tourists with limited time in Avignon. This art gallery is located at the end of the square - Place de Palace - with the entrance on the square.

Interesting art and nice staff. I especially enjoyed the " La Cène" painting of the last supper, right after a trip to Tuscany trying Vin Santo and Biscotti, just like the people in the painting made in the same area.

The story behind the paintings in this museum's collection is incredible-and soap opera level dramatic. Basically, it involves a 19th century Roman art collector, his crimes of embezzlement, Napoleon III, and the Louvre's high-mindedness. Admission is free, and we spent an engrossing hour and a half. The courtyard cafe is egregiously overpriced.

Although this museum is free, most of the rooms/works of art were closed off. Thankfully I did get to see Botticelli’s Madonna & Child, but whereas I’d normally spend a good couple of hours in an art gallery, I was done in less than half an hour.

I was also looking forward to enjoying a coffee in the courtyard, but the café was closed and it looked like they were renovating or getting rid of it!

An excellent exhibition of Italian (Siennese, Luccan, Pistoian, Florentine) gothic and early renaissance paintings along with a few outstanding medieval sculptures. Beautiful old ceilings in a few rooms. At the end, very well executed series of Florentine renaissance "Theseus" series on the topic of mythical heroes (Phaeton, etc). Also, there is a very nice quiet courtyard cafe.

We went to the petit museum expecting to spend a couple of hours. As it turned out we spent about 15 minutes, as there were two rooms open with a very few paintings to show. It was a big disappointment. It's a good thing it was a free entry museum or I would have been more upset! But the museum building itself was gorgeous!!!

I found the art very interesting. There was a Botticelli collection beyond his Venus, which was nice.

Quiet area, full of paintings brought by Italian clergy. You can see a beautiful Madonna with Child by Boticelli.
