Although it had a pretty garden, it was hardly worth visiting. The name "van Gogh" attracts visitors, but there is really nothing to see that is related to Van Gogh, and little to see there generally.

Really this is just a pleasant courtyard. There are beautiful flower beds and a fountain. It is a good place for photo opportunities but not much more than that. As part of a trip to Arles it is worth walking through and is free.

Lovely gardens good for a quick visit and stop in the gift shop. Take a tour if you are interested. There are several spots in town when Van Gogh was inspired to paint

Great place. Lovely garden, peaceful and a real pleasant surprise when you find it. It's amongst the narrow strets. It's a real treat to find such a space. Free entry and good souvineer shop. Very pleasant place to visit

Since we enjoy Van Gogh's painting so much, and had spend a day at the Orsay the week before, we found this location very interesting. This is the hospital where he retreated after cutting off his ear. The gardens have been preserved to resemble the...More

We weren’t able to go inside but our guide gave us a pretty thorough history of the place. Then we wandered through the gardens, which were BEAUTIFUL and peaceful.

Easily found place in Arles that gives context to work paintings of Van Gogh. I wish there had been a place to fit snd reflect without having to be in the cafe. Arles in general had zero places to just sit and relax.

Small courtyard brimming with flowers with shops adjacent. Just like the Van Gogh paintings. Perfect for an in-passing (15 minute) stop.

The first stone was laid in 1573 but the hospital (Hotel Dieu) was not completed until the 17th century. After cutting off his left ear, Vincent van Gogh was a patient for a brief period, late 1888 and early 1889. During his stay, he depicted...More
