We caught the local bus to the Abbey. If you elect to travel by bus I would adopt your leisurely day mode. I suspect the bus timetable is provided as a rough sketch rather than a definitive document. I enjoyed travelling on the locals buses,...More

Visited here for the third or fourth time during the annual photo festival. The structure is amazing. Does not take much to imagine the days gone by in the vast airy cavernous rooms. Plenty of space for kids to run around and let their imagination...More

I disagree that this venue is better than Avignon. But it does add to Arles two main attractions nicely. For sure there are less tourists, but you can’t compare the scale. The thing that’s nice is that you can discover this “abbey” in your own...More

This old abbey is 100% worth the visit. I would even say, it is the most interesting site in Arles. Once visited by Vincent van Gogh, this monument appears in several of his works of art.

Built into/onto the rocks, with a fascinating history, the abby has lots to see. Carvings in the walls from the builders, graves carved into the stone, history galore.

The ruins of the abbey of Montmajour are a jewell of medieval religious art. Built between the 10th and the 14th century offer a splendid view of the surroundings from the standing tower, while some of the architecture and art details like the columns and...More
