Wish the items on display had more descriptions in English or German, as my French is basic. We were fortunate to have the museum nearly to ourselves, being it was late in November. Short walk from the old town in Arles.

I'm not a expert on how museums are curated but I can recognize a good thing when I see it. Other reviewers were spot on about the antiquities housed in this museum and the fascinating Roman boat. It would be a shame to visit Arles...More

We spent hours here, especially with the mosaic from Hydra and the recovered boat and related artifacts. Be sure to watch the video about the recovery and restoration work; there are English subtitles so you can understand all the technical details.

My degree is in Classical Archaeology, so not surprisingly, I've been in a lot of Mediterranean museums that specialize in Roman and Greek antiquities. This is one of the very best - a must-see even if you are not a 'museum person'. The detailed models...More

This "new" museum is excellent, with several wonderful exhibits from the Roman era, including the boat and bust of Caesar. It really is a cracking museum - modern, spacious and very good value. There's even now a video in English all about the famous boat....More
