Before you strike out to see the many amazing sites in Arles, we recommend this museum. It gives a lot of context to the city and it's place in the Roman empire, and includes some amazing artifacts, particularly the boat hauled up from the bottom...More

My degree is in Classical Archaeology, so not surprisingly, I've been in a lot of Mediterranean museums that specialize in Roman and Greek antiquities. This is one of the very best - a must-see even if you are not a 'museum person'. The detailed models...More

This "new" museum is excellent, with several wonderful exhibits from the Roman era, including the boat and bust of Caesar. It really is a cracking museum - modern, spacious and very good value. There's even now a video in English all about the famous boat....More

This museum is spacious and has quite a lot on display. The video about the 2000 year old Roman barge is a must. The barge is displayed with its cargo. The rest of the museum is interesting.

Impressive modern building housing Roman and other artifacts. Only problem was that only a small percentage of the exhibits had information panels in English.

This museum makes ancient Arles come to life. We went to the museum after we had spent the day sightseeing in Arles, and the exhibits here helped put everything into perspective. And the perspective is....Ancient Arles was huge and astounding. It was already amazing standing...More

The museum traces the history of Arles in ancient times through the archaeological findings in the region. Especially interesting are the ancient Roman barge, the marble busts of Julius Caesar and other ancients including a woman's bust thought to be that of Venus. Also interesting...More

Not at the museum, no, but the city centre isn't far away and you'll find plenty of places to eat there.
