Lovely afternoon out!
Aug 2019 • Family
Beautiful and interesting park. Great for kids. There are some animals to see (goats, cows, ducks and peacocks) I wouldn’t go especially for the animals but they’re a nice bonus! The park has well kept pathways around it and is well mapped out with a good amount of signs to help and boards telling about the history of the park with interesting old photos and displays. (It was built on a rubbish dump). There’s a nice play area and a maze, which the kids loved. At the entrance they had a merry-go-round and a couple of small attractions. We couldn’t spend long there sadly, but would have loved to have taken a picnic and spent a whole afternoon there. It’s well kept and beautiful.

Lovely park
Nov 2018 • Couples
We visited on a cold and gloomy day in November, but even then found this to be a delightful park. We spent about 1 1/2 hours there and did not have time to see everything. In addition to the scenic aspects there is a small farm area, mini-golf, a maze and a cafe.

An excellent walk. Recommended for picnics in summer

We came to visit as we like parks and this is a highly rated attraction in Caen. We didn't really know what to expect; we were not disappointed.
There is free parking across the Avenue de l'Amiral Mountbatten. I got the impression this would be really full on weekends and in summer. Entrance to the park is also free. There is a somewhat pointless "miniature Normandy" at the east end of the park. The park itself has a large hill in the middle of it. There are various paths leading up to the top. One we took explains how the park was built on a landfill site (what a great idea!) and has a sort of cave behind a glass screen which shows the rubbish the hill is made of. The name of the park, "Birds Hill" in English, refers to the fact that it used to be a large hill covered in birds scavenging off the waste.
At the top of the hill there are nice views of the city of Caen to the southeast, in winter at least. Perhaps in the summer the foliage would reduce visibility. On the eastern side of the hilltop, we were surprised to find rather a large petting zoo, with goats, sheep, pigs, chickens and I think a donkey. Awesome. Further west there is an enormous rose garden (sadly dormant for our November visit) and a maze. I can only imagine how beautiful the rose garden would be when in full bloom.
Local residents are lucky to have this on their doorstep. As the park is just off the Caen ring road, I would recommend to anyone who is passing by to stop and visit this park, even for just an hour. It's that good.

Flower Power Parc
Jul 2018 • Couples
Well maintained diverse parc- we cycled here -up the hill, using routes on cycle map (we obtained from Tourist office for Caen) from where we cycled into Caen (racecourse by the Orne, down below) - worth the climb and it has cycle parking by the gate. Beautiful rose planted area by pond and wildflower areas. Toilets- in education facility (no running water (unsure if due to heatwave) or other dedicated for all visitors. A great demonstration of what can be done with rough ground. we went away with an idea for a new rose-Chantreuse de Parma- purple , beautiful scent.

Large with a variety of options for all ages
May 2018 • Couples
Our hotel recommended this spot and we definitely were not disappointed. The park was quite large and offered a variety of experiences for all ages. There were romantic spots for couples. There were a large number and variety of walking trails for all ages. There were periodic benches on which to rest or just view the beautiful scenery. There also were several play areas for children. There definitely is something for everyone here. To top it off, the park is free!! What’s not to like!!! The amazing thing is that the park was built on top of a former garbage dump.

Incredible Park!
Apr 2018 • Solo
This park was incredible and I visited well before peak season. I was struck by the numerous sections and diversity, the rose garden, French gardens, the maze, the world gardens, the Normandy animals section and more. The rose garden was not in bloom, but it will be a must see when it is. The baby goats were too fun to watch. There were many folks walking and running for exercise. There is an area where they are testing ground cover for the future new and improved tram system, very cool. I walked there from the city center and it took about 35 minutes. There was a parking lot directly across from the entrance, 2 meter height limit. There was a crêperie next to the park and a few restaurant options at the Caen Memorial just across the street. We are in Caen for a few more weeks and I'll return on a sunny day.

Good place to stretch the legs

The playground and maze were fun options for the children. We enjoyed our walk around the park as a break from driving. Likely extremely beautiful when the flowers are in bloom.

Perfect place to wind down
Oct 2017 • Couples
Free entry, free parking. One of the most beautiful parks I have visited. Wide, level trails and paths take you by hundreds of florial varieties, through a georgeous, terraced rose garden in the shape of a five-acre bowl; a three deminsional hedge-maze; and one of the cleanest animal displays possible. A bonus was learning that this was reclaimed land from an old landfill, converted in the 1970’s. Caen, in the Normandy region, is central to many memorials of the horrors of WWII. In contrast to those needed memorials, this park serves as a refreshing beacon of peace and goodness.
