Charming historical street
Aug 2020
When you walk this short street you can't help but wonder how the city looked before it was bombed during the war. As glad as you are that what the result for society was as sad it is with all the damage that was done - not only here off course but in so many other places.
The street is full of small restaurants and the old houses are very charming. We came here just after lunch so we did not stay very long, but it is well worth a visit even if you are not planning to eat.

This is a great little area to visit for restaurants and we had a superb meal at Le Petit B. The Castle is also nearby Regards Gary Saunders

Old square stuffed with restaurants and terraces
Jul 2019 • Couples
This is a delightful square in Caen, completely car free, thus forming an irregular square of old houses. The houses have been converted to restaurants, with a great choice of different options and price ranges. In summer, all of them have a terrace and one can enjoy the good weather and view while eating.

A pocket of history - full of restaurants
Jun 2019 • Couples
This is the go-to place for a variety of restaurants side by side in a lovely old street - very lively on Friday and Saturday evenings

Such a delightful little corner of Caen
Feb 2019 • Family
This is like stepping through a warp hole into the past. Not much of Caen survived the bombing in WW2, but this little corner of Caen near the chateau is a real treat. Mostly restaurants, but lovely to wander through and have a meal or a drink at one of the restaurants/coffee bars.

What Caen looked like before the destruction during WWII
Jan 2019
Just close to the castel of "Guillaume le conquérant", that small quarter is all what I like in medieval places. The old pavments on the floor are only for pedestrian. The area is unfortunatly small but big enough if you consider it's miraculous that quite the entire Caen was destoyed during the WWII! In summer or winter, the atmospher is nice and relax, you can find a lot of good restaurants and bars to spend a nice moment outside of time!

Historic, cosy area
Jul 2018 • Family
One of the few places not destroyed by bombs in WWII. A cozy atmosphere with plenty of restaurant options to choose from as you wander down the street looking at various menus. Each restaurant offers something different. Highly recommend this area.

Rare survivor
Jun 2018 • Couples
A short street near the castle housing most of the remains of pre 1944 domestic Caen architecture, now entirely dedicated to the restaurant trade. At least that's better than the dreadful reputation it once had. Great fans of the 'Little Sparrow?' A very young Edith Piaf grew up here with her grandmother in a house of ill repute!

Charming

Really lovely section of the city. If the rest of Caen survived like this it would rival Paris or Venice.

Lots of excellent restaurants and a nice vibe to the people you meet there

Different and important...
Sep 2017 • Couples
Important because so much of Caen was destroyed during the Second World War, yet these houses somehow survived. Beautiful.
