Just as Narbonne was a bridge to Roman Spain this basilica is a bridge between Roman and Gothic architecture. Notice both the round arches and the attempt to add window space and go higher! Built over earlier ruins, the church has just layers and layers...More

This church was built on an ancient crypt and some if the tombs are very well preserved with beautiful reliefs on them. Within the basilica itself there is a small font with a carving of a small frog lurking at the bottom under the water.

This is one of the great sights in all France. An exceptional cathedral, unfinished after hundreds of years and yet beautiful in all its parts both inside and out. A true miracle of the middle ages.

The size of the church at 40 meters high is amazing. The cloister is beautiful and the stained glass windows are fantastic. How anyone could build a church like this 800 years ago is hard to believe. We were lucky to hear the church organ...More

With less than a day in Narbonne we were unable to see everything. Thank goodness we didn't miss this. It has the most incredible sense of calm. If it was a choice between this and the main cathedral, which is beautiful and worth seeing, this...More
