Start at the spring in the park at Uzes. Marvel at how the water was carried over the Pont du Gard acqueduct. Finish here to see how water was dispersed throughout Nimes. For civil engineering nerds, this is fascinating! And I found it fascinating as...More

We discovered this in a book about Nimes and it was easy to find. It helps put into perspective the skill of Roman engineers in supplying water to Nimes. Well worth a visit .

Those Romans were such brilliant engineers, and this water distribution point is another example. And it is 2000 years old.

This is not a very interesting site visually but if you are interested in Classic Studies or have visited the Pont du Gard then it will prove interesting. This is the well that stored the water fed from the Pont du Gard.

This structure is the arrival point of the Roman aqueduct in Nîmes and coming from the Eure wells, some 50 km away. At this point 10 pipes distributed the water over the different main districts of the city. Not very spectacular, but certainly interesting and...More
