The Tour Magne, i.e. the Great Tower, is the only tower left standing from the Roman city walls. The top of the tower of 140 steps provides a striking panoramic view of Nimes.

We visited on a really hot day so the walk from the centre, through the park and up to the top tower were really hard work! The view of the city from the top were wonderful, well worth the climb!

This monument lies to the north west of the town. We accessed it through the Jardin de la fontaine, climbing the stairs which are steep but the ground underfoot are manageable. It is a long climb approx 20min at a slow pace from the Jardin...More

Its nice history and many different functions are nicely displayed at the bottom of the tower. Views are not very rewarding but the monument is very interesting being linked to a Nostradamus prophecy. You can get the "Nimes Romaine" pass so the admission will be...More

An amazing and impressive Roman tower that was part of the Roman fortifications of the city of Nimes 2000 years ago. We went all the way up and could enjoy a fantastic view of the city. Great place to go!

Nice walk up the hill to the Tour Magne, our ticket to the Arenes gave us free access to climb to the top where the views over the city are stunning. Narrow steps and 2 way traffic so need to be careful and patient !!....More

Well worth the trek up from the city but not for vertigo sufferers! Worth going early or late as there is little room on spiral stairs and viewing platform is quite small. Can be scary ascent and descent so think about avoiding with under fives...More

We climbed the Tour Magne after a picnic on the tables under the trees nearby. We happened to be alone on the platform right at the top of the tower. Great view, good fun.

Very little preserved from original structure, but it offers beautiful views of Nîmes from above. I would advice to go by car early in the morning when there are less crowds. Tour Magne opens at 9:30. You can park nearby.

It is a very old tower, though not a lot is known about it and the interior has been largely gutted. You wait your turn at the bottom then you can climb up to the top for a nice view. Not good if you are...More

Beautiful tourist attraction to have a panoramic view of the city! Not very expensive... I recommend it taking the kind of ticket with the arenas and the maison carrée included.
