The artist Moreau decided to convert his home into a museum, and created several large-scale paintings specifically to fill the rooms. And filled they are... The paintings are not really my style (too dark and too much pathos), but the history of the place makes...More

Nestled on a small street high on a hill stands the Musee Gustave Moreau. I am admittedly a Moreau fan and I suspect one would have to be to venture forth and see the collection cum home. The sublime painter of the surreal subconscious mysterious...More

If you are a fan of Moreau, nothing can beat this place for its artifacts of his life. It's also a glimpse into life in Nineteenth Century Paris as this is a typical good house.

It is also the artist's residence and studio. I always love to visit museums that were converted from the artist's residence because they are not designed with the security as the top priority, but more focused on displaying the art in the best light. This...More

I visited this museum a few years ago when I was still based in Paris. Though it's not as well-known as the other Parisian museums, it is still full of very interesting art works. Moreau's style is dark but still detailed and he has a...More

Gustave Moreau was a 19th artist that produced many works of art and in this museum is a surprising large collection of his work. Admission charge. Nearest metro is St. Georges station.

This museum is probably not for first-time visitors to Paris; it is not a museum for visitors with limited time in Paris. If, however, you are particularly interested in late 19th art and particularly of that movement known as Symbolism, this museum is definitely worth...More

This small museum is, in essence, Gustave Moreau's artist studio. You can see how this artist lived and worked in the second half of the 19th century. The main studio room is spectacular. Combine this with a visit to the Jean-Jacques Henner museum — also...More

Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle
époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades,
and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here,
modern day workers continue to take advantage of the
legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th
century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and
cinemas sit side by side with French bistros
predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in
