I had never heard of Francois Rude (1784-1855) but I will be looking for his sculptures wherever I go. One enormous cast "Le Depart des Volontaires de 1792" is just breath taking. Don't quote me, but I think I translated the sign as saying it...More

Go out of your way to visit this museum which is also free. It is on top of/adjacent to gallo-roman excavations that you can peer into from above. The statues in the small museum and nothing short of incredible and some are massive.

A small space featuring some of the sculptures of Rude, including a huge piece against the far wall. The back of the old church building that houses the museum is accessible and worth a look. Very old.

Located in the former St.-Etienne church. Plaster casts of the romantic and bombastic sculptures of François Rude. His well known monumental 'La Marseillaise', part of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, covers the entire back wall.

We happened to wander in here. It's not big, not in English, but has some interesting statues. Worth a stop!

Well, we stumbled upon this museum. As we peeked through the doors, we saw a massive sculpture in front of us and entered the museum. This museum has copies of famous sculptures around France created by F. Rude. Like the one in this picture is...More

This is a very small, but interesting museum in Dijon. Unfortunately, there are no guides in English (only two small notices). I highly recommend to go there, but read some articles about the exposition before that.

Ancient building with interesting sculptures by Francois Rude and contemporaries. Sketches of works prior to sculptures. A small room with but well worth a visit and it's free.
