This is an amazing art museum, enhanced by its recent remodeling. It focuses on the region of Burgundy though its scope is much wider with archeological remains from Egypt, a decent collection of early Italian painting, an exceptional set of Swiss works, artefacts and paintings from the Renaissance, and two oustanding works that were ordered by the then powerful Dukes of Burgunday. These are the two remarkable altarpieces by Jacques de Baerze and Melchior Broederlam and of course the Tombs of the Dukes of Burgundy. Allow plenty of time.

We had no idea how big and comprehensive this museum would be. It's collection of art from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance was truly impressive. It's a hidden gem, and does not get the recognition it deserves from the museum-going traveler community.

Spent the whole Sunday morning with the family visiting this very well organised museum, which before was the residence of the local dukes. 3 floors exhibitions, with several paintings, sculptures, and even the graves of two of the dukes. All of the above is for free, and for a very small price we bought a nice game (like a game of the goose with a booklet of enigmas and a box of coloured pencils) for kids to discover the museum. Highly recommended

Fantastic museum in a former palace. Free entry encourages all to attend. Worth a drop in for anywhere 1-3 hours. Location is central to old village

Enjoyed the collection. Had good signage, covid protocols and pass sanitaire or vaccination status required. Would be a top museum in most countries and enjoyed my visit.

This is my third visit to this famed museum and the best. Last time we came with my wife, was 15years ago and we are just amazed at how great the redesigning of the whole museum is a huge success.
Beyond the museum exceptional unique wealth (medieval paintings collections, dukes of Burgundy tombs, painting collection spanning from the early XIVth to contemporary art) that goes back to the great duke art collections, the way every painting, sculpture, tapestry and piece of art has been set is just wonderfull. the 3hours walk we had from the beginning tothe end of the collection was just a fantastic experience due to the remarkable paintings hanging, the clever comments (both in French and English) and the light that flows into the museum. Without any doubt, a great among the best art museums in France and Europe that count so many. A MUST SEE whenever in Dijon....

Beautiful museum with tons of art to see. I liked specially the room with the tombs and all the painting from the middle ages. There were some nice furniture too. Even the collection of modern and contemporary art is very tasteful. The museum fills brand new, like the national museum of a major European country. On a side note, make sure that the prices in the gift shop are the real ones. I want to buy a souvenir but when I was about to pay, the price was higher than the one marked.

Great and diverse paintings and sculptures. The building is equally impressive. Moreover, the entrance is free.
