Grand Promenade
Sep 2019
A most enjoyable walk can be taken along the promenade of the Garonne river. It is busy though especially with cyclists, skate boarders and the like which can be a nuisance when strolling along. Views of the river and the Pont de Pierre are lovely and the stunning buildings give a walk along here real charm and should not be missed.

Must see
Jul 2019
The Port of the Moon is a lovely part of Bordeaux by the River Garonne. It is the old port which dates back to a really long time. This area is even listed under the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are magnificent buildings and other wonderful features which make this an area worth visiting.

perfect place to walk and watch the world go by
Nov 2019
Port of the Moon is the old harbour at Bordeaux on the Garonne river. today it refers to the promenade between the Pont de Pierre and the Pont Jacques Chaban-Delmas. the Left Bank is beautiful and it is a great place to walk, cycle, or run on a sunny day, however, the view of the right bank is frankly boring. Several spectacular buildings face it such as the Palais de la Bourse.

This is near the Wine Museum and right on the water. It is a little walk from the town but worth the shopping or dining right on the river.

The river bend
May 2019 • Solo
The ancient name Echappe de la lune refers to the bend in the river between the old stone bridge and the the modern Chaban-Delmas resembling a half moon. The harbour activities have been relocated to the estuary and parking spaces by the water turned into a wide boulevard. All three tramlines follow the river, the very edge is reserved for pedestrians and bikes, which move fast so look out. Among the many shops at the old store houses lining the bend I found the namesake Echappe de la Lune most interesting selling delicacies, books and home decoration related to the region.

Great stroll in the old town. You can see the boats and bridges. Lots of people running, biking, etc. This is fun and lively and a great walk that you will remember! A view of the Gargone!

Lovely Promenade by the Garonne
Apr 2019 • Solo
Le Port de la Lune is the old harbour at Bordeaux on the Garonne. Nowadays it loosely refers to the promenade between the Pont de Pierre and the Pont Jacques Chaban-Delmas. The backdrop on the Left Bank is beautiful and it is a pleasant place to walk, cycle, or run on a sunny day.

The old port is no longer in operation but there are still occasional visits from cruise ships. It is far from the best way to experience Bordeaux but fortunately these monstrosities do not stay for long. It is also possible to get a small boat along the Bordeaux stretch of the Garonne from here.

The promenade as a whole is lovely. Several spectacular buildings face it such as the Palais de la Bourse which in the right period of the year is reflected in the Miroir de l'Eau. The buildings generally that can be seen from the promenade are lovely.

The Garonne is a flowing river and dredges up quite a lot of mud. Despite that it is a thoroughly pleasant waterway to pass alongside.

The view to the Right Bank is much less interesting and is clearly the poorer relation. The bridges at either end are impressive in their own ways but form a backdrop rather than a core part of the area.

The aspect that makes this area work is how lively it is. There are always people enjoying the area passively or actively. A particular highlight is coming across street dance collectives by the Miroir de l'Eau.

On Sundays a nice little market springs up mainly swelling fresh products. At the new bridge end there is a shopping avenue with a series of restaurants.

The whole area is well maintained despite its popularity. It is a genuine pleasure to experience and a wonderful promenade.

Scenic river promenade
Sep 2018 • Couples
Wonderful path right along the river, allowing you to stroll while viewing the historic buildings of Old Bordeaux, and giving you access to shops and restaurants as well. Very lovely and peaceful place to walk, night or day.
