La Gitane is in the cellar beneath Cafe Istanbul. There is a separate entrance to the left of the cafe. The room is evocative of a 20s American Jazz club, with black and white pictures on the wall and very smartly dressed and polite staff.

Tables are arranged in front of a piano with candles throughout.

The atmosphere is friendly and a little formal. Some gentlemen and staff were wearing bow ties and did not look out of place; I felt fine in a shirt and jeans.

Excellent jazz/blues music was provided by a pianist, double bassist and drummer.

The vibe is chilled out, staff are efficient and friendly and the music was great.
