Sprotbrough Lock is one of the loveliest spots of the canal. Next to 17th Century pub, the Boat Inn, its grassy banks are within an area of outstanding natural beauty and this special place is an extremely popular spot for a Sunday stroll, a leisurely bike ride, a peaceful fish or just to lie back and gaze up at the sky and watch the birds.

Lovely location and a lovely doody pub. Love the atmosphere of the boaters, a great place on a summers day for a walk or cycle. We walked to Doncaster along the river. Busy at peak times so the parking gets creative!

Great dog-walking territory here and mainly pleasant people around. Unsure of the perceived protocol for dogs, pedestrians and bike in terms or rights of way but it is also a popular cycle route. Cyclists be aware - pedestrians have right of way.

Great walk down the canal, plenty of boats, cormorants and ducks as well as fish. Some lovely industrial architecture too

We started from the fish by-pass and walked up as far as the old railway bridge (2+ miles). Be warned that the path up to it is steep and hands are needed in places! Great views going over it. The return leg on the cycle...More

A regular walk down by the river/canal side sometimes stopping off for a quick half at Boat Inn but more often continuing on to the Cadeby. Beautiful scenery. Interesting wildlife spotted whilst walking. Great to stop to admire the colourful canal boats moored at Sprotbrough....More

Been twice now, we plan to go a lot more and we can walk a different route each time. The boat inn is a nice place for a meal too.

Pleasant surroundings for a dogwalk with a bit of a pub to pub stroll with the dig a possibility. Good food nearby at Mehfil and Otto in Sprotbrough village or The Boat.
