Been here a few times, one of my favourite places to go in Doncaster especially when it's rainy. The museum has a lot of interesting stuff to look at, a wide range of things for people with different interests, such as an art gallery, a large train, war exhibition, and the main museum bit with lots to see and learn about the local heritage.
Great for all ages and fun!

Wonderful museum. The exhibits where set out in a manner which you could see them even if others where in front of you. The pieces were varied but grouped together in a way that made sense. The information was excellent.
Large dress up area for the little ones which my son and I had a blast in.
A great selection of taxidermy. I appreciated the human remains were flagged on the main information board so anyone sensitive to them could avoid that are.
Downstairs in the railway museum the trains and associated items were very interesting.
Clean picnic are inside with water machine.
Exceptionally clean in all areas.
Staff very helpful (mostly). Will definitely be returning and hope to visit the gallery next time.

Our first visit to the relatively new Doncaster Gallery, Library and Museum (DGLAM). The glass frontage encloses the facade of the former Girls High School and its original stone staircases. Very convenient pay and display car park to the rear.
Spread over four floors we were very much impressed, not just by the building but by the care taken with the layout and content. There is so much to see that it is not possible to take it all in on one visit and we will be returning. We ate in the café, the food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful (as were all the others that we met).

Me and a friend decided to give Doncaster a change
So planned a day out to the museum and have a few pints
There's nothing really wrong with the museum or art gallery other than there wasn't much to
Took my time and spent around an hour browsing
It was an ok day but wouldn't bothered going again unless they update their exhibits

I principally came to see the railway collection. There are 10000 items in the collection but relatively few on display. It is a new museum and perhaps that will change. The two locos are impressive.
There are things to interest most people however on all floors and it was two hours well spent. The setting within the frontage of the old high school is imaginative and unusual

This is for Doncaster's new Danum Gallery, Library and Museum opened last year. I understand the previous building is now used for archives. I fully agree with the positive comments. Some architectural features and tiles from the former Girls School that used to be on the site are included in the new building, and two big Doncaster-built steam locomotives were somehow moved into the lower-ground floor railway exhibits. Lots of things to see on three floors, just focus on whatever you're interested in, where available use the small fixed 'computer screens' to get more information, or ask the staff, who are very good. Don't miss the information and photos in the Museum (first floor) about Doncaster's amazing 'Sand House' created from the 1850s onwards (gone in the 1930s). The cafe is a bit small and gets busy at lunchtime, but the 'light menu' food is good including impressive cakes and scones. An easy walk from Doncaster Station, on-street 'blue badge' parking for about six cars is on Chamber Road by the entrance to the building, and other parking is easy to find nearby. Could do with more 'brown signs' to help drivers unfamiliar with Doncaster find the the new building and avoid the old building (which is still shown as the 'Museum and Art Gallery' on one on-line map. Also, the mini roundabout by the new building still has a brown sign pointing up Chequer Road and away from the new building. Overall, I think more may need to be done to make people outside Doncaster more aware of the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum, and what it offers.

Train staff in appropriate behaviour. Took a group of disabled adults today found staff unfriendly and one attendant even shouted at one of the group causing her to cry, disgusting....

This venue is currently closed for renovation.
However, the other attraction (often mistakenly listed under Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery) is close by. The Danum Gallery, Library and Museum (which actually houses the 2 steam locomotives shown in reviews for the Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery) is not listed on Trip Advisor
I did try to unsuccessfully add the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum to the Trip Advisor listings (after several attempts) but the location and map pin would not save.

The whole experience is excellent BUT the cafe food and service when ordering could have been better. We had a hard, over toasted, possibly OOD tea cake. When I ordered I had to repeat my order as the assistant started talking to a colleague.

Pleasant facilities and an enlightening story of Doncaster and it’s ties to the rail industry

If i paid £4.50 for a cheap plastic sword and the handle easily snapped off would you replace it or at least discount tbe 2nd one i need to purchase for my autistic son who was devastated that it broke so easily. Or would a jobsworth tell me 'afraid not'and leave me embarrassed in front of other people and having to fork out another £4.50 equalling £9 for 2 cheap swords? Asking before i leave a review
