- lgreen9Northampton, United Kingdom480 contributionsBeautiful structurePopped here as part of our week long holiday in the area. Visited after viewing enguinity and coalport museum as it it was round the corner. We are english heritage members. Car park is small and cost £2 for non members. Site is free. Today was drizzly but it didn't stop us. Would be a wonderful and maybe romantic spot for a picnic if the weather was sunny. Only us on the site. No toilet or gift shop. There is an attendances box, perhaps for warmer weather. we took our boys 5 and 10. They love to explore and work out what lays before our eyes. Some handy sign plaques to help us. Beautiful original tile floor (we saw similat tiles at stokesay castle but could stand on these) and structure in general. Spent about 20 to 30 mins here.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 April 2023

Must have been quite spectacular in its day. Still plenty to see and good for family picnic on a sunny day, safe quiet and plenty of space in the lovely grassy surround.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 19 July 2023
- Tom TClacton-on-Sea, United Kingdom206 contributionsLovely bit of abbeyWith a love of broken abbeys and priories that I'm mercilessly mocked for by my family, this has been on the hit list for a while. It's not a huge site and easily done in under an hour, but on a good day with blue skies and sun it's a lovely site for pictures. Combined with Wenlock Priory (both English Heritage) the kids will have the best time ;-)Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 November 2023

Visited as was near by. Spectacular ruins in a good spot.
A few picnic benches and a book shop are there on site.
Good place for a picnic.

Perfect for a quick stopover if passing by. Beautifully tranquil location. Dog friendly. Informative boards around the site.

This is a very historic site. We were the only visitors on a dull January morning. Loved the original tiles and the fact that there are some information boards as in previous reviews people have said that there are none. Will visit some other local abbey ruins and return here in the summer for a picnic.

We enjoyed the calm and peace of the site, with shaded seating around. It would have been good if there had been some information on different sections of the ruins, but we were lucky as there was an excellent volunteer manning the site who showed us the information she had on the history of the site, but we understand that English Heritage have plans to provide information boards at some time.

Use to be a great place but most of the ruins are surrounded by construction fencing, the only good thing now is that it’s free entry whereas a few years ago you had to pay to enter. Interesting history and photo opportunities if you avoid the construction fencing that is around parts of the ruins

Visited on my Shropshire holiday on 2020, after the first Covid waves and lockdowns. The site was empty and a bit hidden, car park is not too big, but being alone was enough... To be honest I went there early, because I wanted to see other attractions on that day, too. Not too many information, or rather not at all information, and though the ruins are impressing and we can have some image in our mind of the abbey's life centuries ago, but some details would be appreciated. I did not find toilet on site, or maybe it was locked because of the covid misery, but all in one a short hour is enough to spend there. It is free to visit.
