Overview
More
The Ruislip Lido Railway is a 12 inch gauge railway operated entirely by volunteers. The line runs through the woodlands skirting the lake from Woody Bay Station beside the beach, all the way round to Willow Lawn Station which is close to the car park. Here you can watch the loco being turned on the turntable ready for the return journey. The two and a half mile round trip on Britain's longest 12 inch gauge railway takes about 35 minutes. PLEASE NOTE - This TripAdvisor page is for the railway at the Lido. The Lido itself is maintained and operated by the local council.

Although the trains were not running today you could see them in the sheds. The line runs around the lido lake, through the woods, it’s a very scenic run and very well maintained by the voulenteers. The lido is served by some cafes and has...More

We love visiting the railway with out 4 year old son. We visit several times a year and everytime is a treat. We find it hard to believe it is staffed by volunteers as it is so professional. A particular highlight is the Santa specials,...More

We had a lovely time at the Santa Special and even got to ride on one of their oldest steam trains 'Lady of the Lakes' on the return journey. The volunteers put in a lot of time and effort to make the event run smoothly...More

We took our grand kids to a Father Christmas event. They do it very well. The enthusiasts that work on the railway do an excellent job at dressing up and making the queuing enjoyable and entertaining. The Santa was amazing and did a great job....More

We went here for my sons 2nd Birthday. He absolutely loved the train. The staff were friendly and helpful. They couldn’t have done more. My mum uses a mobility scooter and they had no problems getting it aboard. The phrase that was used a lot...More

I’m a railway nut, having been brought up in the 50s and have been on many small, narrow gauge lines all over the place but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Good rolling-stock, well maintained track of a very good length, and a lovely diesel loco...More

Thanks very much Bob, glad you enjoyed your visit. Everyone you see working on the railway running the trains, maintaining the track and rolling stock or operating in the Shop / Tea Room etc is a volunteer yes, we're very proud of this. Our steam...More

Come in summer but be warned that it is not guaranteed to run as it depends on volunteers to operate it. Plenty else to do for the kids as there is a sandy beach and a track around the reservoir.
