Not the most extensive abbey ruins I’ve seen but interesting nonetheless. It’s a self-guided walk with help from a handout. An interesting picture of friars’s lives.

We stayed at The Glasshouse Hotel and this was an easy, beautiful walk from the hotel. It was founded in 1252 and although it's called Sligo Abbey it's really a Dominican Friary. Nice self walking tour that you can do at your own pace. Beautiful...More

Well worth the look through if you have the time. The Abby dates back several centuries and has quite a lot of original intact buildings to give some idea of what it was once like

What a fascinating place to go back in time. There are many nooks and crannies to explore while reading about the significance of what you are looking at. It doesn’t take long but it is well worth the effort.

Convenient, easy walk from the centre, this was an interesting ruin. We were provided with some useful printed material, or you could do a formal tour. Scenic. Photogenic. Especially the Cloisters. Recommended.

Well worth a visit to see the wonderful carvings, Gothic and Renaissance tomb sculptures, well-preserved cloisters, and the only 15th century high altar to survive in any Irish monastic church. Founded in the 13th century, rich in history. One of my favourite places to visit...More

We visited the Abbey on our way through Sligo and it was well worth it. Full of history and they give you a laminated sheet with all the information about the Abbey so that you can do your own tour. It was not overly crowded...More
