We actually hadn’t planned on going to the castle; we went based on a suggestion from the owner of the B&B at which we were staying in Kilkenny (she pretty much said that going to the castle is “a must”). Overall, we weren’t disappointed. Yes,...More

A group of us traveled to Ireland from the US and the Kilkenny Castle was a must-see on my list. We looked up the Castle hours on line and in our guide books. It clearly stated that it opened at 9:30am during the off season...More

Beautiful historical building in the heart of Kilkenny. This castle was built in 1195 and is structurally amazing.

Arrived via train from Dublin for a quick couple hours in Kilkenny (not on a tour, just me on a whim wanting something different to see and do). Got there about 30 minutes before closing time so it was a quick run through the grounds....More

I had a lot of fun with the trip. Learned a lot about the Butler family and their influence in Ireland, and the interesting history of the castle. The highlights are definitely the Arabian staircase and the gallery. Those are simply breathtaking. A must see.
