Save money and drive yourself. Minimal issues. The odd bus and truck at pinch points but if you are used to right hand drive vehicles it is no problem to do. valentia island ferry to top of mountain the best aspect.
The Ring of Kerry tour doesn’t live up to the hype. We went on a Paddywagon bus because we read over and over how dangerous the drive is. We were also told this by locals and friends that have made the trip. You only get...More
I have read some of the poor reviews and can see, to an extent, their points. It is a long drive and, I should imagine, that it could become tiresome as there are "less spectacular" areas en route, but could that not be said of...More
We drove the Ring of Kerry, started out early on a Sunday morning.
First hour - hour + a half was beautiful, gorgeous views the whole way along. Really enjoyable.
From then onwards we met many many cyclists - all of course within their right...More

My recommended stops: Ross Castle (so picturesque!), Muckross House (walk around the grounds for free, beautiful gardens), Torch Waterfall (small parking lot, it's just...More

You can drive in either direction, it is recommended to drive counter clockwise-same direction as busses, to avoid issues of backing up on narrow roads and cliffs. I drove it after taking a Buss, I recommend going with the busses not against the busses on the ring of Kerry, dingle peninsula and the great Atlantic way.
