This beautiful firary is gorgeous even in ruin. At one time it was the largest in Ireland. It is surrounded by bucolic pasture and grazing cows. Lovely.

We stumbled upon this friary as it wasn’t in any of our guide books. This was one of the largest In Ireland housing upwards of 600 monks in its peak use years. We were the only people there and it made for a surreal experience....More

This was indeed a special place on our tour. As others have said, it has no tour guide and only one sign to provide history. That said, it’s so peaceful that one can imagine while standing inside the roofless structure what life was like so...More

This is an old ruin, no glitzy artwork, no interpretive tourist leading people (thankfully) no roof, no food for sale, no bathrooms. It's in a field after you drive though winding, skinny, single lane roads. Originally founded in 1351, enlarged to its current form in...More

We were in a tour visiting connemara and it was one of the stops before arriving to kylemore abbey. I must admit that these ruins impressed me more than kylemore abbey. The site is well preserved. We can walk along inside walls and imagine the...More

Ross Errily Friary was eerie, yet beautiful at the same time. It's located out in the middle of a field, and is a nice view from the outside, be the real beauty is located inside the walls. Although its basically ruins, most walls are still...More

This was one of my favorite places in Ireland. Breathtakingly beautiful! Free admission, self guided, off the beaten track. Fabulous views.

Where do you get to see something so ancient without any lines AND it’s free! Better than Disneyland:) We were the only ones there at 10AM. It’s a small dirt road that leads to it, just drive slowly.

This was part of a tour that my wife and I took on a trip around Connemara. These roofless buildings have a lot of history that probably should be promoted more. The buildings themselves are wonderful and indicate different time periods in their architecture. Admission...More

This is just out in the middle of a cow pasture, but is a wonderful medieval monastery. Definitely check out some of the small archways, and huge fireplaces.
