Iolaire sails twice daily from Iona at 9.45am or1.45pm OR from Fionnphort at 10am or 2pm. The trip lasts 3 hours and you can get on or off at Fionnphort or Iona. The Iolaire is a brown wooden boat and returns to Fionnphort first at 1pm or 5pm and then to Iona 10 minutes later. The sea journey takes 45 minutes and en route a wide variety of sea life may be observed. Once at Staffa a commentary is given and Fingal's Cave can be seen from the Iolaire. Passengers are landed weather permitted and given at lease one hour ashore which allows time to walk into Fingal's Cave or up the ladders to see the puffins when they are in season. There is always something exciting to see and the crew will be happy to welcome you on board the Iolaire.

Had a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins escort the boat part of the way, bit of a steep climb up the steps onto Staffa then a walk to see the Puffins, didnt have enough time to go to Fingals Cave. Reccomend this trip.

Once you spot the puffins it is hard to come away and they perform so well in May, sorry you didn’t reach Fingal’s Cave on foot. Everyone is happy when the bottle nose dolphins appear, thanks for coming on Iolaire.

The CalMac ferry was broken down and the folks at Staffa Trips helped out by getting people to Iona and back to Fionnphort all morning but they made sure we got to Staffa and had a good trip that afternoon.

I never got around to making a tripadvisor account until now, but the trip we took in June 2017 from Iona to Staffa was above and beyond. First of all, classic Americans, we were oblivious to the time (we took the CalMac and spent the...More

A very enjoyable tour from Fionnphort to Staffa. During voyage (approx 45mins), the very friendly crew provide lots of information and facts about Staffa, local area and the wildlife. On arrival at Staffa, you get 1hr ashore before the boat returns to Fionnphort. You get...More

A visit to Staffa is a must, although unfortunately at the time of our visit the path into Fingal’s Cave had been swept away and has not yet been replaced. The crew on the boat were helpful and friendly and very knowledgeable.More

The path at the entrance to Fingal's Cave has been eroded due to winter storms. It is not a simple matter to address although planning is taking place by the National Trust for Scotland and their engineers. This should not detract too much from the...More
