About
I am an experienced professional Scottish tourist guide/driver guide and offer tourist guiding throughout Scotland. I am listed under 'Paisley' as that is where I live. I am happy to guide in Paisley, it is a beautiful and fascinating town, but I mostly work throughout Scotland. I am a member of the Scottish Tourist Guide Association and a trainer for the STGA and the World Federation of Tourist Guides Associations. I can plan an itinerary to suit your needs, my vehicle is a Mercedes V Class Extra Long with plenty of space for seven passengers. The advantage of a small group is that we can get to places a little off the beaten track, and the itienerary can be tailored for exactly what you want. There is so much to see and do is Scotland, let professional guiding bring it to life for you!

Robert was such an amazing tour guide. He not only did what was on our itinerary but went above and beyond taking us to extra places enhancing our experience! He always arrived a few minutes early so you didn't have to stand around to wait for your tour guide. He was always accommodating to what you were looking for in your trip. In the vehicle he wore a headset going to a speaker to ensure you could hear every word he was saying even if you were in the way back! We did not get that with our other guides. Thank you, Robert, for such an incredible experience! We will definitely be with you on our next adventure!!!

Robert was a remarkable resource to my party of 4 that he drove around Scotland for one week. He continually amazed us with his clear and concise explanations for whatever questions (even the occasionally daft ones!) we had as we drove along. The outfit he has on in the shot above was how we were greeted every day. We met someone else while strolling along and he commented that Robert looked 'resplendent!" We agreed!

He has a wry sense of humor (think 'dad' jokes), is an excellent driver, was unfailingly reliable for our daily pickups, and adjusted the day's trip to any changes we wanted to make. He even was a good sport and helped me prank a friend of mine @ home by helping stage a photograph.

We loved our time with Robert and would gladly employ him again should we ever return to Scotland.

We were just plain lucky to find this true gem of a man. Robert is probably the most knowledgeable Scot there is about everything from folklore and history to geography and legends. Plus Hes got a killer sense of humour. Hes got his speakers connected to his headset mic so that even the people at the back of the van hear clearly. Excellent and calm driver with the patience of a Saint (especially to deal with us lot). Don't hesitate, you can't go wrong with Robert.

Robert picked my family and I up at the appointed time each day, and was ready to go. He was very knowledgeable about Scotland, and would tell us interesting stories while going from place to place.
Robert was calm and easy going, and seemed to have everything in control, and I felt I was in great hands with him.
We had a problem with one of our scheduled events and it was canceled, and Robert was ready with a full day's tour of the Isle of Skye to replace it, and it ended up being my favorite part of the trip. He had listened to our group's questions, and catered to our interests throughout our time with him.

In short, Robert is the best tour guide I've ever had, and would suggest him to anyone who wants a calm, kind, and knowledgeable guide throughout Scotland.

Robert Bowles is an extraordinary tour guide. His knowledge and professionalism was absolutely stellar. Robert has a great attention to detail. For instance, he had a microphone in his van which amplified his voice so we could clearly hear his explanations of the land we were traveling through on our way to St. Andrew’s. He fully educated us about the surrounding villages including historical facts, anecdotes and stories.

Once we arrived, he knew exactly what routes to take to save time and to enhance our experience. We visited not only the golf course but also the university and the cathedral ruins among others. He even suggested a perfect spot for lunch. It was adjacent to the Old Course and filled with photos of famous golfers who had played the iconic golf course. It served the best fish and chips we have ever eaten. We would have never found this perfect place without his suggestion.

He was very patient and always helpful. He dressed in his sport coat and kilt which made the experience extra special.

If you are looking for a phenomenal guide in Scotland, look no further than Robert Bowles.

Robert Bowles was our tour guide in Edinburg, Scotland in May 2024. He took our family of seven sisters and cousins on a lovely tour of Stirling Castle. He advised us ahead of time about the history of Stirling and also about the actors performing in the castle and what to ask them to encourage their acting and give us the best reenactment possible. He took us past things like the Kelpie Sculptures and is really interested in presenting Scotland in its best light to promote not only tourism, but also green industry and the health and welfare of Scotland. He was absolutely delightful and in full Scottish kilt attire.

Thanks! I am really glad you enjoyed the tour. Stirling is a great castle to visit. Kenny, who did the sheepdog presentation, deserves a medal for his work, which is in addition to looking after 6000 sheep!

My wife and I hired (for 5 days) Robert to guide and drive us in the Highland and Inverness (and Edinburg) areas of Scotland. He is knowledgeable, flexible, experienced and professional. We highly recommend him for those wanting an expert guide and driver (his van is very clean and comfortable, with device charging and water).

Robert Bowles was our guide for a day near Edinburgh. He met us in his full clan gear, and drove five of us - in his comfortable van- for a tour of Stirling Castle, a whiskey tasting, and then a sheepdog demonstration. Along the way he provided interesting facts and stories about the area. For lunch he suggested a perfect spot that we would have never found ourselves. Robert was flexible with our schedule when we asked if he could change our drop off to meet others travelers. He arranged everything seamlessly.

Robert was our driver and tour guide in the Scottish highlands. He was incredibly knowledgeable, batting close to 1000 on all the questions our group of 6 asked. Interesting, engaging guy and fun to be around. Brought an already memorable experience to another level.

We were very fortunate on our first trip to Scotland to meet up with Robert Bowles. He picked us up on time at the Edinburgh Airport wearing his full dress tartan- what a pleasant surprise! We were barely out of the airport for our two week tour with him when he began teaching us about Scottish culture painted by the brush of Scotland’s complicated history. We learned he was not only a historian but also a conservationist. He could name all the roadside wildflowers I inquired about and all of the trees. He is a kind person and a gentleman. Thank you Robert for helping make our trip so memorable!
