Found ourselves inThurso and at lunch at the Pentland Hotel (excellent) and with a short time to spare wanted a quick view and visit and this popped up on the Internet, if you are in Thurso it must be close - worthwhile.

We stumbled on the ruins of this church while walking around Thurso. The site is understated and does not offer onsite information (I had to look it up on the internet later!), though the architecture and churchyard were fascinating in and of themselves.

This is an historic church in the centre of Thurso, which still displays a number of the classic and attractive features of its past. Some reprobates have taken it upon themselves to smash and vandalise the memorials and gravestones, and it has been necessary to...More

We stopped here before heading to Orkney Islands. As we walked along the waterfront, we discovered St. Peter's Kirk. Lovely ruins with gravestones. Kirk is very close to the main street of Thurso.

We stumbled on these fascinating old church ruins and graveyard, and soon a local began explaining all about it and pointing out some of the 'highlights' such as the stone mullions in the huge window and particular graves. The old boats near by are also...More

If you're in the area, this is a must visit place. Now a Ruin and the Graveyard is no longer in use but the stones are so interesting. Don't be surprised by the amount of Sinclaiars and Clergy Buried there as the Sinclairs Owned nearly...More

Gorgeous, peaceful medieval church located in the center of town. Well worth a visit, interesting place to walk around and read the gravestones. The main gate is unlocked 24/7, and access to the main church yard can be gained with a key from the local...More

A great historical site but in need of some more TLC. Very interesting and easy to find in old town. Signage could do with a bit of redoing but Thurso Horizon museum is well worth a visit too

Worth walking around to the church yard and old church. There seems to be quite a bit of history here in the church and in the headstones. Not much written information at the site so have a look at Wikipedia if interested.

Stumbled across this by accident. The remains of the old St Peters Church in Thurso. Now merged with St James in an altogether grander building more in the centre of town. It is a great place just to have a look round (you can't go...More
