Lovely understated church, frequented by The Queen and other members of the Royal Family. Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall got married here. When we first passed by the church was closed but we were able to walk around the grounds, however the following day we...More

An important site in the old city, just inside the city walls. Worth a quick visit, lots to see around, lots to eat and drink.

This is a cute, charming little church in which the queen worships when in the area. There is a seat reserved especially for her and marked with a royal crown. The headstones in the yard are interesting to see as well since several famous people...More

Apparently the home of the grace of one Ebenezzer Scrooge, the Kirk was the site of grave robbers and hence metal grates were installed to deter people from stealing bodies to sell to the local medical school. Lots of old gravestones whisper the history of...More

On Canongate across from the Edinburgh Museum this kirk is inviting with its Dutch blue interior. Don't miss the royal pew in the front and numerous pictures of the many visits the royal family makes while they are at Holyrood only a short distance away....More

I have visited many churches in Europe but what makes the Canongate Kirk stand out is it's simplicity. The clear glass windows flood the church with light and I found the blue paint used on the pews and pulpit unusual but attractive not the austerity...More

Canongate Kirk is a pretty church just off the Royal Mile, reflecting quaint Dutch architecture with gable ends. It is easier to visit the churchyard around the Kirk, as the church is often closed to the public. A walk around the churchyard takes you back...More

It has a gorgeous facade with an interesting stag's head and antlers at the apex. Above the pediment a plaque informs that the church was built with a large donation in the mid 1600s from a local businessman. Inside is attractive. The predominantly white walls...More

This church is a real gem. It is the armed services church and where the Queen attends. It has lovely volunteers and no charges for photography. It is also where Adam Smith is buried.

Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street
