This was our first visit to this nature reserve and despite the fact that it was very muddy we enjoyed the walk along the river and through the trees on one of the many walks in the area. We ended up by walking up Blackford...More

A nice place to stroll through, especially in summer, when we went it was a bit damp, wear wellies/boots and waterproof coat as can be a bit wet and slippery. Nice to walk through the natural wooded area, a pleasant stroll for an hour or...More

This is a hidden gem. Lovely walk sheltered from the wind in most places. Great for my lab as she likes to have water nearby to cool down. Cafe at the start of the walk a bonus and paths can take you on a short...More

Fairly gentle climb compared to Arthur's seat - but overall a better view - because it includes Arthur's seat. Nice oasis only half an hour's walk from the city centre, and much less busy than the other hill!

Many people in Edinburgh are unaware of this glen with the Braid Burn running through a steep glacial valley for about half a mile to the south side of Blackford Hill--it is a truly tranquil and magical place although popular with local dog walkers and...More

Most visitors don't even know it's there! It's a peaceful and hidden nature reserve in the south side of Edinburgh where you can walk, cycle, run, picnic, or just relax. There's lots of wildlife. If you're lucky you'll see many bird species, foxes and deer....More

Unlike Edinburgh's more prominent green spaces (Athur's seat/Holyrood Park, Meadows) the Hermitage and Blackford/Braid Hills area is one largely known by locals. The woods are great for walking around in, there is the river to splash about in and two hills to climb. On the...More
