A free visit to a piece of ancient history with the bonus of a commanding view of the valley. There is a reasonable bit of information on plaques. There isn't a huge amount to do or see there but it's a short walk to the...More

Really interesting place for a short walk. Can actually go underground! Best to combine it with a longer walk in the Pentlands. Good parking close to the fort so ideal for those that can't walk far!

Probably only of real interest to iron age historians. From the outside there is little to see. This is an underground earth house that you can enter. Although there is natural light through ceiling, it may be worth having torch, if you want to have...More

Surrounded by a sheep pasture, this hill fort has some interesting history to read about. But watch out for a lot of sheep droppings in the area as they are free to roam about. The inside of the fort was very quick, but interesting look....More

It’s probably best to see this outside the winter if driving or you may have difficulties on the access road - it’s long, steep and narrow - don‘t attempt if it has been snowing. There are car parking spaces and portaloos at the base of...More

The hill was the location of an iron age fort and later an earth house from the second century AD. All that is left is an excavated underground passage and some of the ditches from the fort. Not a lot to see but the passage...More

This ancient hillfort is just south of Edinburgh. The area is well used by locals for walking and mountain biking. Many of the paths are loose gravel and a military firing range is beside a burial chamber. It wise to check access prior to your...More

It's interesting enough for a quick read and look around, something to do as part of a visit to Pentlands
