A small museum with some interesting exhibits and information on the normal people of Edinburgh. Was nice to read about more modern stories as well as those from the 18th and 19th centuries.

I arrived at the museum a little after 4pm (it closes at 5pm). The woman was very kind and let me in; she suggested I start from the second story part of the exhibits. I had a great time reading the posters and seeing the...More

Having visited a number of the free museums on Edinburgh's Royal Mile, the People's Story is perhaps my favourite. The museum is located in a very old, small and quirky building which has a very comforting old fashioned smell! The welcome from the lady on...More

This small museum is worth a visit to learn about the history of the people of Edinburgh. The informative displays cover housing, industry and the trade union movement. The museum is free to visit and gives a real insight into the lives of past generations.

Excellent and informing free museum opposite the Museum of Edinburgh. Very unassuming but kept us entertained for well over an hour. A very interesting museum taking you through the lives of the real people in Edinburgh and how they once lived. A must see.

we really liked this informative, unassuming museum which provided a lot of information about life in the city, historical events, and how the town evolved throughout the ages. 3 teenagers were occupied for more than an hour, which is not a small feat!

While the content of information is good, there is little flow through the exhibits. The information presented is erratic and at times difficult to follow. It would greatly benefit from restructuring and presenting as a story for you to follow.

This place was way, way better than I even expected. It goes in depth about the living conditions of the people of Edinburgh through some really fun displays. It's free to visit and across the street from the also excellent Museum of Edinburgh- also free.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
