Part of the University of Edinburgh, we entered having come down from George Square and left through the quadrangle of the Old College. The gallery holds an excellent programme of contemporary art exhibitions, which can be challenging, and are always interesting to visit. In the...More

Visited as part of Edinburgh Doors Open Day with a group of friends. Small compact gallery. I was more interested in the actual architecture of the building than the art work I'm afraid. It wasn't my taste but quite a few of the group enjoyed...More

Interesting artworks on display, in a number of rooms. The building is nice to sit in. The staff were friendly, niced relaxed environment. Not far from Bristo square.

This is an art gallery in a corner of the beautiful Old College building. The space is great for small exhibitions. Just now it is holding a Stephen Sutcliffe audiovisual exhibition as part of the Edinburgh Festival activities. It will not be to everybody's taste...More

Loved this gallery! Visited for the exhibition a friend had posted about. Fresh and edgy in the art scene. I especially enjoyed the video art "The Common Sense"

A lovely canvas for any exhibition. I went to Counterplace which was interesting and varied. Not a massive set of spaces so even if you're not a major art fan - this can be a nice quick visit.

a delightful gallery with contrasts. The Georgian Gallery with its Dutch Collection above and contemporary hang on the ground floor is beautiful; the other galleries offer a bright well illuminated backdrop for modern art. To be recommended is the guided tour - check when it...More

We stumbled on the Talbot Rice by accident and had never heard of it. We went in half expecting a museum about the cereal (rice), but what we found was a bright, light, modern art gallery with an exhibition of drawings by a sculptor and...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
