I went to the museum in part as a way of honouring my dad. The museum contains some wonderful artefacts and visually arresting exhibits but the experience is somewhat derailed by the dark and confusing layout. It may just be me but I wasn't sure...More

This is one of the museums included in the entry for Edinburgh Castle and we were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. All the exhibits were well laid out with appropriate and good information provided. Well worth a visit.

Interesting museum for those who are military history fans. Free entrance once you pay the admission fee for Edinburgh Castle. Fascinating displays of weapons, uniforms, documents which date back to the old and not so old days of Scotland military glory. My husband loved the...More

It is off the beaten path at the Castle. Keep your eyes open it about half way down or up. Worth seeing since so many Scots were in service.

Went into the Museum during our Castle Tour to see. Not large in itself but large for its display of history. You can only see this area after you purchase a Castle Entrance fee, but this is also worth it.

The museum itself was very interesting. The last section of the museum has a display of Poppies used for remembrance by all the countries. Was very disappointed that the Canadian Poppy had a small Canada flag pin in the middle of the Poppy, which is...More

As this museum is located within the Edinburgh Castle, you will be unable to visit it unless you are visiting the Castle. If you aren't interested in seeing the rest of the Castle complex then paying the entry fee just for this museum isn't worth...More

This is yet another hidden gem inside the Edinburgh Castle complex. It is included in the price of admission and contains a wide variety of educational and interesting exhibits and items from Scottish military history. Don’t miss it.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
