The shops are ok. The restored rooms on the tour are just ok. The tour was terrible. The man leading the tour was both tired and tiresome. Overall very boring tour and not worth the cost of money and time.

You have to pre book a tour to visit this house but its definitely worth it. The house itself is quite small, what makes it special is the tour guide who explains the history of the building and how it fits into the history of...More

We had booked an 11.30 tour and were unsure where the tour started from as there were no notices. I waited in line at the cash register and was advised that our tour had been cancelled but we could go on the 12.30 tour. The...More

It was a interesting and informative visit to this building and I would highly recommended it. The tour traces the building's history and life within from ite days inside the city" walls. It shows how it was once 14 storeys high ... Each room is...More

We really enjoyed our tour of Gladstone’s Land. It was certainly brought to life by the guide showing us round. The tour took just over one hour and only covered the first floor of the building. The description of the life of the house was...More

Margaret, our guide was excellent, and gave us a real insight into what it was like living in Edinburgh in the 17th Century. A very entertaining history lesson!

George was a wonderful guide- informative and funny. Only four stars because we were expecting a bit more though, as it's advertised as a Merchant House and the tour only really covers one floor that was lived in by the namesake Gladstone- who we heard...More

We did the one hour tour which was very informative and entertaining. It made the times come alive with many actual utensils, art, furniture from the 16 th century. Highly recommend particularly if you usually find learning about history dull.

Touring this property gives one the opportunity to see one of the oldest buildings in Edinburgh which is now owned by the National Trust of Scotland. The building served as a flat for a wealthy person 400 or so years ago. A very interesting hour...More

This is a really interesting small museum which helps you understand the changes and development in buildings in the Royal Mile. Gladstone’s Land is a 17th century tenement house which has parts dating back to 1550. You have to book a place to be taken...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
