A gentle 4 mile walk from Cairnbaan to Crinan for a coffee and cake gave a useful insight into the amazing engineering that was required to construct this canal hundreds of years ago. It would have benefitted from more information boards, say every half mile,...More

This 9 mile canal is a joy to walk, with plenty of different lock arrangements, and canal boats passing all the time. The scenery is varied and delightful, with coffee stops at the beginning, part way through and at the end. The original steam boats...More

As epitomised by the old song the Crinan Canal is a special place. Not too long or too short, the Thoma Telfer designed canal is a feat of engineering joining Loch Fyne with the open Atlantic and the mystical isles of Islay, Jura and Mull.

This is a lovely place to walk around and relax. As I've never seen the locks up close before it was nice to be able to do so but the best part was the beautiful photos that I end up with!

The canal is a fantastic walk with lots to see along the way. It’s well maintained although a lot of dog dirt but that’s not the staffs problem. Lovely friendly staff working hard at the locks. Looking forward to walking the route again.

Having sailed the canal 30 years ago, it was nice to visit this beautiful, tranquil part of Argyllshire again. Built to save sailing round the Mull, the canal still provides a peaceful route out to the Argyll coast and Inner Hebrides. The stillness and quiet...More

Stopped off over night in our camper van. Its a very beautiful area with great sea and landscape views. Good walk up and down the canal, with the forest also worth a visit. Coffee shop and pub available in crinan itself!
