The castle is a few stories with very narrow stairs as you can imagine. But the view from the top worth climbing those stairs. There is a light and musical show in the main hall which gives you information about the castle and inhabitants. It...More

I looked up places to stop on our road trip and found the castle right on our route! It was a great stop with easy parking. We had a great time looking around and my fellow travelers loved the gift shop, lots of great fantasy...More

My mum got tickets for the showing of the lost boys at the keep, when we arrived we were quite confused where we needed to go as there was no signs but once found we weren't disappointed. The castle is amazing, I've lived in Newcastle...More

The castle is a place of interest to me not seen in nearly 60 years. Better than I remember it from the 1950's. Great views over the city sky-line, not as it was in my youth. Blackgate next door a building I never visited before,...More

Incredible condition for a building of such age, worth the hike up to it from the Quayside but once you are up there it is easier to visit the cathedral and other interesting monuments.

We did not have time to go inside, but made sure as we walked around the city to view the Castle from outside. It is quite small compared to many castles in the U.K. I am sure it would be interesting if you have the...More

The grand old castle building suffered badly from the building the railway. It cut through part of it. On the other hand, it's interesting to visit the old keep, although the stairs are very steep. Above the Black Gate Castle Garth the historic display on...More

This castle is good to look out from the outside, for free. It is better to see from the inside! You are protected from the rain and cold as you see the various rooms and how they were used. You can see examples of middle-ages...More

We only saw this from the outside. To buy tickets you had to enter another building, use the lift which took you to the gift shop (ofcourse!) and tickets. Not sure we wanted to spend that money when there was so much else to see,...More

Visits to the Castle are self-led, however we do run occasional guided tours, e.g. as part of Heritage Open Days. Please do keep an eye on our website's What's On page.
