Sadly I couldn’t get access as it’s closed for repairs, which was a shame, I would have thought that the repairs could be carried out around the visitors, one section at a time. But clearly they deemed it necessary to close the entire building, apart...More

Sadly, the cathedral is currently closed for repairs during work days, so I only got to see the outside. Looks nice. Hope to visit when the repairs are complete.

The cathedral can be found a short walk from the railway station. The Roman Catholic cathedral is small but has some interesting modern stained glass and interesting icons. There is also a lovely little coffee shop on site where snacks can be purchased.

This was a bit of a surprise. The streets around the cathedral were very ordinary but thee cathedral itself was far from ordinary. Furthermore, there was a wonderful cafeteria for the weary traveler.

Having visited many other religious buildings Newcastle Cathedral was slightly disappointing, it lacks the splendour of others.

St Mary's Cathedral was close enough to the railway station to make a quiet visit. I expected a grey somewhat uninteresting church. What I saw was quite the opposite. Along the side walls was a line of quality decorative ceramic tiles bearing the names of...More
