This pub has a great location on top of Guildford High Street, and looks great from the outside. Although this is where the charming aesthetic stops.
Have visited this pub twice in the last couple of weeks- and although the first visit was ok, food was decent, the second was a no-go.
The food was nice, and the cider quality, Symonds, is a good tap option. Crisp and fresh. But the service was interesting.
This was confirmed when the most recent visit was cut short. After trying to contact the pub saying our party was running 10 minutes late, I joined a queue outside.
This would have been ok, until a delightful member of staff just said our table had been given away.
I completely understand this, but after travelling for 30 minutes and no answer from their phones, 'tough luck, that's what you get if don't come on time' wasn't really appreciated.
Thoroughly disappointing and definitely lacking any kind of charm, would hasten to avoid in future.

My office booked our Christmas meal at this pub but it was an utter mistake. The roast meal ( mine was vegan) included: roast potatoes which were clearly baked and then simply reheated in the microwave which meant they had a rubber texture. The Brussels sprouts were not properly cooked ( with 2 members of staff staying these “were the worst sprouts” they have ever had. The gravy had no flavour as it was watered down to the point that had lost its taste. Then came the dessert! Several of us had chosen as dessert a berry crumble, however we were served rhubarb instead which for many, including myself, it’s an acquired taste. Have I known this was the dessert I would not have ordered one. Overall I thought the food did not meet the standard you would expect for the price paid. I understand most businesses are cutting corners where they can due to the cost of living crisis particularly as a result of the increase on energy bills, however, I feel we we’re ripped off! I will not be returning and I am sure I will not be the only one in our group! Stay away from this place and book elsewhere!

Booked in advance to attend the Bottomless Brunch with friends and mentioned upon booking one guest was a coeliac. When we arrived I mentioned I was Coeliac so couldn't eat anything on the brunch menu and before I could say anything else I was immediately told "Well you shouldn't be here then"!! I felt embarrassed and so uncomfortable. I said I understand you can't do me any brunch but I would like to be there and have drinks with everyone.
Id noticed on the normal menu prior to going they did NGCI Nachos which I should be fine with and mentioned this could be an option if that was ok with them.
To be fair to the rude staff member, he explained about the kitchen containing gluten and couldn't guarantee it but I said providing the chef had clean hands and utensils it should be ok. He told the waitress to pass it onto the chef and my order was put through.
The Nachos arrived in good time and not only were they delicious but a HUGE portion too.
So mixed emotions about my visit to this place...
Suitable for Coeliacs ❌
Covid measures in place ✔️
Dog Friendly ✔️
Tasty Food ✔️
On a side note, my friends who had the bottomless brunch made the mistake of not realising that you must stick to the same type of drink throughout your brunch, so no switching from prosecco to gin! Whatever you order first is what you then have to stick with. This wasn't explained to them when they first ordered, as it's already in the small print but the member of staff kindly let them switch drinks just the once, as they clearly weren't happy.

Lots of different options at great value. Hidden gem with great seats upstairs. Not too busy for Sunday lunch but worth booking. We didn’t feel rushed and the staff were welcoming
Only downsides I’d say are the app was challenging to download and there didn’t seem to be any gluten free options.

The moving mountains burger for vegans is so good and the tacos that came with it are a perfect match. They were very busy so service a little slow but the food made up for it, try it even if you’re not vegan!!

Excellent pub with great friendly staff and good English pub grub. The Ultimate Burger is just that. How many more types of meat can you get on a burger?

I popped in for a drink with my 80 year old mother at the end of our Christmas shopping trip at about 4pm. We ordered a hot chocolate and a beer. They had run out of hot chocolate so went for a latte.
There was no available seating downstairs so I went upstairs where it was virtually empty and was advised by a very rude member of staff that we could not sit upstairs if we were not eating! I suggested with all the empty seats could she reconsider. A curt no then she went on to tell me how busy she had been. I thought being busy in the hospitality game was good! I went back downstairs and asked the woman behind the bar if they would allow my elderly mother to sit upstairs. Another very rude no. She then lied about a big party about to arrive. I suggested there was still plenty of spare tables. She said that she did not know that because she was not up there. Accusing me of lying?
We left without having our drinks. With all the great pubs in Guildford this one does not deserve your custom.

Came to this pub many times in the past and always enjoyed it as a decent traditional pub with decent beers. However, the service on this occasion was atrocious from separate bar tenders. Firstly it was an effort for the girl to get off her bar stool to serve and then offered zero manners, and secondly the lad who served the second time managed to offer a 'single or double' conversation during the entire order as if my order was of a huge inconvience to him and that I should instead of gone elsewhere for a drink. In conclusion - nice pub, change the staff!

Always a spot I come back to when I visit Guildford. Great food and beer range that seems to change frequently.
Looking forward to my next visit.
