Never knew this place existed. We went for full at the cafe on site after a friend recommend us. We didn’t know that it was a historical site which is now a museum. The kids loved learning about the history of the hamlet and the steel industry of Sheffield.
It’s only small but a perfect stop for some good food and a little something to do with the kids.

Wonderfully conserved. One can feel the the industrial past of the region by visiting it. I suggest to start with the little museum on the right, as it explains the history, purpose, and functioning of the place.

Abbeydale industrial hamlet is perfectly preserved. Thanks to J G Graves for donating it to Sheffield in the 1930s.
We had a very fun time here today. Just the right amount of information and great to see the waterwheel working and work in the forge.
Would highly recommend this!

Joni's has become a real favourite very quickly and it's a great place to meet friends for lunch or a coffee. Attractive modern surroundings, efficient, quick but above all friendly service, and some outstanding food. My current favourite is the wild mushroom benedict (lovely big juicy mushrooms, thick slices of soft sourdough toast, and perfectly-poached eggs) but we've yet to find a dish we don't like and it'll be a pleasurable duty to work our way through the menu over the next year or two - after a short walk to it through the woods to work up an appetite, and enough exercise to justify any indulgence.... Coffees are top-notch too. There's a choice of seating, inside, outside under the shelter of the roof for when it's damp but warm, and fully out on the terrace for those many hot sunny days in Sheffield :) Attractive views too out onto the Industrial Hamlet (really impressive these days), and someone's put a lot of work into the rockery area just below the cafe which is a riot of spring bulbs at the moment. There's a reasonable amount of parking too - but be aware that the cafe is deservedly popular, you'll need to book a table at lunchime in particular, and parking space is at a premium too. And the other really good news is that Joni's is also taking on the previously underwhelming cafe in the Botanical Gardens, which will give us all even more choice in the future. May the cafe thrive. It's doing so at the moment and it's clear lots of customers love it.

Visited cafe on a weekday, friendly staff and seated quickly, hot chocolate luke warm and very expensive one main course was uneatable, sour dough bread cut very thick and crusts were extremely hard. Tomato soup had little taste, the lemon meringue sweet was lovely but the banoffee pie was so hard you couldn't get a fork through the base!! All in all a disappointing experience. Even the waitress commented on the hard crusts on the sourdough and the price was actually takenboff the bill. Thankyou for that. However the boll was still very high gor what we had. Maybe our choices were the wrong ones, but it did mean that we wouldn't return or recommend.

Saw the water wheel in action and also a blacksmith giving a masterclass. Our 2.5 year old was as fascinated as us grandparents. From the babies cot to the sword-making info, there is so much more to enjoy here than you might initially expect.

It seems unfair to mark down a business based on the on-site cafe but bizarrely, I can’t find Joni to leave a review.
The place is stunning. Iced mocha was delicious, flat coffee was in a small cup that my hubby struggled to hold with the tiny handles although that’s only a small subjective issue. The food was beautifully presented and that’s where the postive experience stops. All 3 dishes were luke warm. Poached eggs, one was over cooked and one was undercooked. I know it’s standard for a waitress to ask if everything’s ok but we were asked twice and the second one asked if she could get us anything else, while we were still eating!!!!! Then it was a lengthy wait for the bill while all waitresses tried to deal with a large party. There’s only one waitress who seemed experienced and knew what she was doing. I wouldn’t visit again just because of the temperature of food. That is a big no no for me.

Very busy staff were very friendly and helpful despite being almost overwhelmed with customers.
Just stopped for a coffee before visiting the centre. Food looked excellent. Coffee was actually hot & not luke warm like ai many places.
