A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

On 4 levels, there is plenty to see here. The history of Nottingham was really interesting and we spent quite a lot of time in this section. Children would enjoy the Robin Hood section. There were artworks from many different centuries and countries and lots...More

The museum is not large but has some interesting exhibits about the history of Nottingham. There are not many artefacts. The art gallery is better with a good silver collection, some costumes and other craft works.

Tired out of date exhibits. Confused collection. Not worth the entry fee. Even the view was disappointing.

If you are able to do the 'Cave Tour' then this is a must. You will get additional history about the castle and what happen to some of the residents from previous centuries ... not necessarily for younger children, (thanks M for the warning)

Stunning gardens surround Nottingham Castle, you wind your way around and up to the castle museum. Well worth a visit with interesting art work and artefacts. A great view over Nottingham with a lovely balcony cafeteria.

Of course it's a must-see attraction. However, it's a rather dull mansion, not a castle, with a good art gallery whose captions are too small to read. The best bit are the views from the terraces, so long as you don't dwell on the concrete...More
