This was a really good couple of hours of history. The museum is extremely well laid out and very informative. The lift down into the dungeon is a fantastic touch. Going back for a ghost hunt at night, this should be very interesting!!!

Lovely small museum with the convenience of a glass lift. Great idea on how to view the dungeon. Wonderful information about the Reivers and a special thanks to the guide in the library, she explain further about the gaol.

For a fiver (and free for children) this wasn't a bad place to visit, however there's much more that could be here which isn't. At ground floor level there's a room which explains the history of the building and its use as a prison, there's...More

We decided to visit Hexham Old Gaol on the way back home from a week in Northumberland...it was just a slight detour for us off the A1. First point...parking! The Old Gaol website advises parking in the Wentworth car park which is just a few...More

An interesting place to visit, it is however not the largest attraction in the area... My wife and I managed to get round in under 20 minutes having read everything on the displays. Somewhat obscure highlight however was getting in the glass lift going down...More

It was a cold afternoon, so we thought we'd give the Gaol a visit. Altogether it's over 4 floors including the dungeon, which are only accessed by the lift to each floor, we thought it was a bit to perfect and didn't really reflect the...More

The oldest Gaol (jail) in England is a great little stop to get an idea of how it was in the past. Some horrendous sentences were handed out here for the such minor crimes. It’s mannequins and recordings that inform you about the buildings past...More

Really interesting well laid out visitor attraction and a must see if in Hexham. It in eludes a quite quirky visit to the jail as you go down in a lift but don't get out.
