Evocative ruins situated in lovely gardens. There was some information up which was great because it is nice to know what you are looking at. Great to have something free in York which is a fabulous city but expensive.
It's very easy to imagine how grand the Abbey must have been in its hay day. The setting is wonderful and on a sunny day, I'm sure there's no nice place to sit and enjoy a picnic. There's no charge to walk around the abbey...More
Definitely worth a visit whilst in York. The gardens are well kept and the Abbey quite quiet and well kept. Some more information plaques would have helped whilst we walked around but it did not detract from our visit.
Visited back on a sunny day in the summer and it was such as lovely place to walk around, along with the gardens. It is hard to believe that is is over 900 years old, shows how well things were built in the old days
